I couldn’t stop myself from being addicted to the outcome of this story! As a mom and an Entrepreneur reading a novel is PURE luxury for me. Reading Daria’s book gave me the escape I needed as I feel in-love with Madeline and could relate to all the longings of her heart, torn between “the right thing to do” by her family and religious standard and what she felt in her heart. Every woman can relate her own youthful hopefulness for a “lifetime” romance, however, Madeline’s journey to love is suspenseful and so engaging I couldn’t stop reading ….and just when I thought the plot was winding down a new twist to keep me hooked was in the next chapter. Indulge in the “treat” of reading this story.

Her descriptions draw you in, creating, as a good book should, a movie in your mind. The underlying themes of family and, most importantly, love, make this a compelling story. Daria is an amazing writer and her use of music to set the time and tone really gave me the sense of being there watching these events unfold.

–Author and Poet Kender MacGowen

Daria is in love with romance and thank God for it! She writes her tale of love, life’s struggles, and dreams. To read such a wonderful novel in today s world of cynics, it is truly a breath of fresh air. This story is a refreshing theme in our present society. It reminds me of those great films of the 1930s with Ronald Coleman and Greer Garson or even Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland. We need more romance in all our lives and Daria seems to live this in her writings! If this is her very first book, she will have a wonderful career as a writer promoting good old American values that made this country great. When men were real men with honor and courage and their women were strong, and they inspired their men to greatness. — Filmmaker Jack Marino

To begin, the heroine, Madeline Rose, is an engaging character. She deals with the same issues most real women deal with at some point or other during the course of an average American, middle class, family oriented, and traditional life. I myself, though from a blue-collar background rather than an upper middle class family like Maddy s, have been exposed to many of the same situations portrayed in the novel, albeit second hand, through the eyes of my sister, who dealt with the same sort of dating woes as Maddy, before she married in 1990. These issues, (being stood up by selfish men, insecurity on the dating scene, and worries about weight and self esteem) are portrayed in a realistic manner by DiGiovanni. The Rose family reminds me of my own; the novel is set in Southeastern ennsylvania, near my neck of the WaterSignswoods, as well as the Jersey Shore, Philly, and Florida. I loved reading about the family dynamic similar to mine, with Italian food, sisters who share bedrooms, parents who love and protect their children, (sometimes a little too much), and aunts who love to gamble in Atlantic City. Madeline s Down Syndrome brother and her battle with anxiety were additional themes that spoke to me. I imagine thousands of other women will relate to Maddy in some way or other; her story is of the American girl next door, only deeper. Cliques, cattiness and backstabbing women are not to be found in Maddy s world. What we find are love, laughter, family, hard work, professionalism, beautiful clothes, and pop music. The hero, Ken, Maddy s true love, comes across as very down to earth, and a bit insecure about his blue-collar roots and upbringing in a Jersey Shore town. The couple s sweet beginning turns sour after a series of misunderstandings, missed chances, and over-thinking of average situations. Initially, I was sad. I wanted Maddy and Ken to get married within two years of their initial meeting, have a family, and live happily ever after. But…this was not to be, and that s what makes the story. The separate courses these individuals take, their experiences, (good and bad), and the relationships they nurture with their own families and new friends along the way, make for an exciting ending to this charming novel. Ken and Maddy spend long years living separate lives, making their own choices, building careers, and yearning for each other throughout; the happy ending is worth waiting for.

A Few of My Favorite Water Signs Book Reviews

A Few of My Favorite Water Signs Book Reviews

I released the second edition of my 2008 novel Water Signs: A Story of Love and Renewal on July 15 (paperback) and July 8 (Kindle).

Why a new release?

Since publishing the book the first time around, I became a ghostwriter in addition to editing and helping other authors to navigate the independent publishing process. Eventually, this path led to the founding of Writestream Radio Network (March 2013) and Writestream Publishing LLC (June 2015) with my good friend and trusted biz partner Lisa Tarves.

Needless to say, I’ve acquired much more knowledge about the independent publishing industry and writing over the past eight years. Aside from wanting to publish my novel under the Writestream imprint, I also wanted to make some dialogue corrections and narration changes. While my book was well received and highly rated, as an author, I felt compelled to fix the things that were bothering me about the first edition. And thanks to the talents of Kia Heavey (cover designer) and Matt Margolis (interior formatting), my original vision has finally been fulfilled.

Still, it’s nice to look back upon some of my favorite reviews in the hope that new readers will respond in a similar manner:

Water Signs was one of those rare books that I had to force myself to put down because it was such an engaging, refreshing read. I enjoyed the fact that the story was set around the Jersey shore, as I am a Jersey girl myself. But what truly kept me reading was that Daria put so much life into her characters! Their personalities, their personal convictions, and their sense of family were so palpable that every time I read a page, it was like coming home to friends. The story kept me hooked all the way through, allowing me to experience Ken and Maddy’s life journeys along with them right on to the very end. The good thing is that the end wasn’t really the end, as Daria is currently working on the sequel, so I look forward to the day that I can pick up with Ken and Maddy on the next phase of their journey together! If you are searching for a truly good book that will leave you satisfied, Water Signs is definitely worth every penny!

The book flows with a great story line easy to follow and the imagination is caught in the rich descriptions of the surroundings as one can almost smell the ocean, hear the birds, and feel the breeze. The dialogue is a little abrupt at times, as some sentences seem to catch one off guard, but upon further reading, it blends with the pending emotion which ensues in joy, tears, heartache, and redemption, in which all can relate. – K. Fitzgerald

Water Signs is one of those rare books that makes you feel like you want to meet the characters in person. Yes, they are that real. It is beautifully written with passion for our country and romance. It is one of those books that is just like a good movie, where you hate to see it end. Speaking of more…please Daria, write the sequel as we are left sitting on the edge our seats wanting more. Madeline Rose and her charming husband Kenny will enrich your lives with their love for each other. Yes, a perfect romance does exist. — Anni

Daria is such a brilliant writer that you actually feel like you are living the story with the main character. I was so engrossed in this book, that there were times I had forgotten that I was sitting in my bedroom! This book is an excellent escape from one’s daily routine. I was always a slow reader, but let me tell you, I read through this book so fast, I even surprised myself!

Never did I ever feel like I could relate to a character as much as I could relate to this one. I could not believe how much Madeline’s life paralleled mine. It kept me wanting to read on. I can count AT LEAST five similar situations that the character and myself have been through.. It blew me away.

In addition, ANYONE suffering from panic/anxiety disorder or knows someone who is, MUST read this book. It will give you reassurance that this is only a temporary condition that will go away. You will lead a normal life again.

Not only will this book give you a sense of hope that true love does exist, it also proves that certain “bumps” that one goes through in life, are only temporary and will pass. Upon completion of this book, I had feelings of warmth, peace and hope, stir within me.

There is a light at the end of each dismal tunnel.

This is A MUST READ!!!..Any novel I had read after “Water Signs”, pales in comparison to this book. I am definitely looking forward to any future novels from this author.

Available for Pre-Order on Amazon: Second Edition of Water Signs – UPDATED

UPDATE: I just approved the book today! It’s now available in paperback on Create Space. If you prefer Kindle or would like to buy the paperback version on Amazon, pre-order here. Both will be live on July 8.

I’m thrilled to announce that the second edition of my 2008 novel, Water Signs: A Story of Love and Renewal, is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com in both paperback and Kindle. To quote an old saying, “I didn’t know what I didn’t know” back then; accrued knowledge over the past eight years has led me to produce the book I’ve always wanted. From the exceptional formatting and cover design to dialogue and editing tweaks, I’m proud to release this new version under the Writestream Publishing LLC imprint.

9780996653176Who knew back then, that the writing and publication of this divinely inspired novel had a much larger purpose than simply a personal catharsis?

Being an author of a well-received, 5-star rated novel increased my level of credibility and ultimately brought me to this wonderful moment, where I am a co-founder of a thriving, independent publishing company with a woman who is not only a dear friend, but a sharp, savvy, and trustworthy entrepreneur.

Since 2008, I have ghostwritten and edited multiple books and consulted with clients on the independent publishing process. Establishing Writestream Radio in 2013, followed by Writestream Publishing in 2015 with Lisa Tarves has been both a joy and a learning experience. I love that I get to work from home, be a voice for others, and help them achieve their publishing goals. No matter how many times we do it, I’m exhilarated when I finally hold the finished product in my hand — whether a client’s work or my own.

I had no idea when I sat down to write all those years ago that I would make so many good friends and contacts, become an internet radio host and ghostwriter, and attract the right business partner. It feels amazing!

For those of you who have read and enjoyed the original version, this is a second edition, not a sequel. The story and characters remain the same; I’ve just improved some elements, added a foreword, enhanced the formatting (with the help of the excellent Matt Margolis), and created the perfect cover design (thanks to the talented Kia Heavey). For those who have never read it, I hope you like it and look forward to your feedback!

Here’s a link to a series of articles that delve into the specific aspects of the novel. Look for an official release in paperback and Kindle on July 15.
