The Writestream with Kimberly McGath and Daniella Bova – Archive

This past Wednesday, I interviewed Kimberly McGath in the first hour of the show to discuss the importance of cover design in book marketing, particularly for indie authors. Kim, a multi-talented retired police detective, cold case consultant, author, singer and book cover designer, has created a several fabulous covers for Writestream Publishing clients, including the one below.

Before we began our discussion on cover design, Kim made an exciting announcement about a contract for a new TV program on true crime – which means this was her last interview. Thankfully, she’ll continue to co-host Partners In Crime on Writestream Radio Network, with her co-host and bestselling author Sue Coletta.

I appreciated Kim taking the time to delve into the various aspects of creating a compelling book cover, one that will make readers take notice. We also delved into the elements that comprise an effective back cover, including a succinct book description. To discover more about Kim, visit www.kimberlymcgath.com.

In the second half of the show, author Daniella Bova joined me to discuss the third and final book in her excellent series, Storms of Transformation, Cadáin’s Watch. Check out the book trailer below:

Michelle and Jason escaped the wreckage of their beloved hometown and are determined to live free. Though they are hunted by the totalitarian bureaucracy, they vow to resist oppression no matter the cost. But insidious evil still threatens. Once proud Americans are hopeless and unwilling to fight, making it that much harder for the rebels in their quest for Liberty. And so, God intervenes, and the angel-warrior Cadáin is sent to watch over those whose spirits are unbroken.

Writestream Tuesday: ‘Ignite’ with Tracy Lawson

IgniteI had the pleasure of welcoming back multi-talented author Tracy Lawson to Writestream Radio today to discuss the third book in her Resistance Series, Ignite:

Nationwide food shortages have sparked civil unrest, and the Office of Civilian Safety and Defense’s hold on the people is slipping. The Resistance’s efforts to hasten the OCSD’s demise have resulted in disaster, with Tommy Bailey and Careen Catecher taking the blame for the ill-fated mission in OP-439.

Both teens struggle to survive the circumstances that force them into the national spotlight—and this time, they’re on opposite sides. On the run and exiled from the Resistance members in BG-098, Tommy makes his way to a Resistance safe house in the capital.

The OCSD is preparing to monitor all under-eighteens with the Cerberean Link, a device that protects them against hunger and sickness and can even locate them if they’re lost. Tommy’s now living in close quarters with Atari, an operative who has been assigned to sabotage the Link. But does Atari plan to use it for his own purposes?

Through it all, Tommy refuses to believe Careen’s loyalties have shifted away from the Resistance, and he’s willing to assume any risk to reconnect with her. Will they be able to trust each other when it matters most?

Having met Tracy back in 2013, prior to her decision to go indie, I’ve been a fan of her storytelling, themes, and plots for quite some time. We had a great discussion today on everything from the power of fiction to inform and inspire critical thinking, to strategies for social media and marketing success as an independent author.

Writestream Tuesday: ‘Counteract’ and ‘Resist’ with Tracy Lawson

Can your browser history land you on a government watch list? Is trading freedom for security a wise thing to do?

Resist

Tune in to Writestream Tuesday on September 15 at 1 p.m. Eastern when the multi-talented author Tracy Lawson returns to talk about the second edition of her popular dystopia Counteract and her latest release Resist — both part of her Resistance Series.

Here’s a bit about Tracy from her website:

Tracy_Portrait_69Tracy knew she wanted to be a writer from the time she could read. She grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended Princeton High School. While in a student there, she turned her writing efforts toward journalism. She was an editor for the school newspaper, news director for the Princeton Instructional Television station, and also worked as a reporter and feature writer for the Suburban Press weekly newspaper.

She graduated summa cum laude from Ohio University in 1988, with a Bachelor of Science in Communications degree.

After working for a time in advertising and as an investigative analyst for the Florida Board of Bar Examiners, Tracy settled into a career in the performing arts, teaching dance and choreographing musicals.

Tracy has had a long-time interest in her family’s history and genealogy, and she never lost the desire to write.

Love Liberty & Lip Gloss: Diane Student Talks ‘The Shattering’

Lisa and I had a blast interviewing debut author and Writestream Publishing client Diane Student about her Young Adult/Steampunk/Dystopia novel, The Shattering on Love Liberty & Lip Gloss.

Released on July 1, it’s the first in the Lewis Chronicles series, centering on a 15 year-old girl named Harper Lewis:

What if you woke up in a different world – only it wasn’t a different world? For fifteen year-old Harper Lewis, that’s the dilemma she faces upon awaking in a jail cell in the year 2050 after The Shattering. In this dystopian Earth of the future, strange creatures, airships, and steam set the backdrop for a war between two brutal factions: the inhuman Dagon and the immortality-obsessed Malucians.

With the help of newfound friends Z, Cricket, Baldr, Annie Devlin, and Captain Yazu, Harper must fight her way out of this prison and find her way back home to 2013. But when circumstances conspire to test her will, she finds herself in an unenviable position: Should she risk a return home, or join her friends in battle against the evil forces of the Malucians, led by the despotic Donald Carver, and the cyborg legion of the Dagon, led by the demonic Abaddon?

If you missed the interview, click below to listen. Aside from her book, Diane shared her thoughts on the writing process, social media, independent publishing, podcasting and more. Enjoy!
