Reflections on 2016: A Year of Building

Reflections on 2016: A Year of Building

Although I’ve been a student of the Law of Attraction for decades (since my oldest brother introduced me to Tony Robbins in the early 90s), over the past year I’ve had the opportunity to study and apply it continuously, thanks to Tasha Chen and the Science of Getting Rich Academy.

Putting these principles into practice takes focused effort and unwavering faith in the process — a daunting task for any human being, especially since most of us have been raised with negative messages about money. This unhelpful programming has been embedded in our subconscious minds, which in turn, constantly remind us that acquiring wealth requires slavish hard work and/or is nearly impossible (only the “lucky ones” do, after all); the love of money is evil; and being poor is somehow virtuous.

A typical Florida sight: an egret crosses my path during my walk.

A typical Florida sight: an egret crosses my path during my walk.

In my case, positive messages about success and wealth at home contrasted sharply with those received throughout my Catholic schooling. I didn’t fully appreciate the origins of these conflicts until I had the chance to work with Tasha, both one-on-one, and within the fabulous community of like-minded people she has created.

For the most part, I’ve spent this past year acknowledging and releasing old thought patterns, forgiving those who helped to instill them, and remaining firm in BE-ing and Living in the Certain Way.

Through these daily, minute-by-minute efforts, I met author and entrepreneur William Todd, whose book The Mentor in Me, will be published soon by Writestream Publishing.  I sought out an affiliation with the incredible book publicist Michelle Kulp for Writestream Publishing — which became a reality this past summer. These are just two of the inspired actions I took, thanks to Tasha’s guidance.

Last week, I attended my first Women’s Prosperity Network, where I met even more like-minded people and won a raffle prize.

The Melbourne Causeway, one of my favorite sites in my own backyard.

If you haven’t read Nancy Matthews’ powerful book, I highly recommend it. It is filled with practical wisdom and simple exercises you can do right now to change your mindset and your life. One of them involves a daily practice of gratitude ~ something I’ve done for many years, but thanks to Tasha, much more consistently throughout 2016.

While my physical manifestations have not yet materialized, I know and trust they are on their way. And when the old thought patterns threaten my faith in the creative process, giving thanks for what is already here is one simple, effective way to stand firm on principle.

This past Saturday is an example. I spent several hours walking in nature to appreciate what’s already all around me and to keep my mind saturated in gratefulness, versus guilt. Countless people this year have been incredibly good to me. They know who they are and I hope they know how much I appreciate them. One in particular comes to mind because she has gone above and beyond what anyone could have reasonably expected under the circumstances (which I’ll not divulge here). I’ve expressed my gratitude to her verbally and I certainly hope she recognizes herself in this blog post.

Rather than wallowing in guilt, I am choosing to channel my genuine thankfulness into resolute adherence to the principles outlined in the Science of Getting Rich. It’s the best way to prove their validity and vindicate her trust in me as the co-creator of my healthy, wealthy, abundant-in-every-good-way life.

What are you grateful for in your life? Who do you thank God for?

Keep a journal. Write it all down, every single day. Take nothing for granted, but give thanks for every good thing, no matter what else appears to be going wrong. By keeping your mind focused on the good that already exists, you will open the channels for even better events, circumstances and people to enter your life. Focusing on gratitude puts you in a high vibration, which in turn, attracts greater abundance and more reasons for you to feel thankful – a wonderful, scientific fact and self-fulfilling prophecy.

As for me, I am grateful for the countless opportunities I attracted in 2016 and look forward to the miracles and blessings sure to come in 2017. I am grateful for the people who have supported me in various ways in this past year and cannot wait to vindicate their faith in me in the New Year.

To all of them and to God, I say with unbridled enthusiasm and joy: thank you, thank you, thank you!

America’s Simple Solutions with Author Mark Werts – UPDATED

I’m excited to welcome Mark Werts, author of the book, America’s Simple Solutions, to Writestream Radio on Tuesday, September 27 at 1 PM Eastern. If you’re sick of politics, but interested in commonsense solutions to our country’s problems, be sure to tune in and call in with your questions and comments at (347) 945-7246:

wt_ass_mark_wertsIn America’s Simple Solutions, author Mark Werts tackles education, healthcare, immigration, taxes, gun control, the environment, gender, equality, and many other issues, and offers Americans simple solutions free of partisan bias, based on how these challenges are handled around the world. Having lived, worked, and traveled across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia, Werts has observed how people in other countries have approached the same dilemmas that we face in the United States. “I have come to understand what is practical and works. I have also seen what is impractical and doesn’t work. In our global world, why would America pursue an idea that has been proven again and again not to work in other places?” he writes. Werts also reflects on the views of our country’s Founding Fathers, and suggests that we have forgotten much of their considerable wisdom.

Throughout, Werts emphasizes the importance of expanded freedom, especially for entrepreneurs and business. He also stresses the critical roles played by education and political participation.  “A good, solid education for all of our citizens is the ultimate answer to our many challenges . . . and to get the best teachers, we must offer the best salaries,” he says.  And he laments low voter turnout, urging all eligible Americans not only to vote, but to get involved in local boards and commissions.

With freedom, education, and voting as an underlying theme, Werts believes that we are at a monumental juncture, and that the future of our individual freedom is at stake. In reading, America’s Simple Solutions will empower people to get involved, and make the choices that will fuel both growth and freedom.

About the Author:

Mark Werts was born and raised in Hollywood, California, the third of six children in a large Catholic family. His father, C. Francis, was a family doctor who treated many of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and who delivered more than two thousand babies. His mother, Virginia, was a schoolteacher. Mark is a graduate of Loyola High School in Los Angeles, the University of Southern California, the University of California-Berkeley, and the Thunderbird Graduate School of Global Management (now part of Arizona State University).

wt_markwerts2He began his professional career working for Price Waterhouse, and with his ear for languages, he soon found himself running the company’s offices in Geneva, Switzerland, and later Madrid, Spain. While in Spain, one of his clients, an influential jeans maker, introduced Mark to the world of fashion. A short time later, Mark trekked his way to Holland, where he founded his first vintage clothing store, Salty Dog, by begging, borrowing, and mortgaging his life insurance policy for the initial $21,000 investment. He soon had ten locations throughout the Netherlands, then two more stores in France.

While in Europe, Mark married and had two children, Julian and Zoey. But, after the relationship soured and his American wife took the kids and returned to the states, Mark married a Dutch woman, closed his shops, and also moved to the United States, to be closer to his children.

Mark launched his signature store, American Rag, in the Bay Area of California in 1984. Despite appearances, denim was never intended to be the store’s focus. He started out selling vintage clothing, as well as Paul Smith and several other good labels. As business grew, so did the Werts household. His third child, Mark Oliver (who now works as a vice president at American Rag), was born in 1985, and that same year Mark found himself looking for a new location. Circling back to his roots in Los Angeles, he discovered an oversized warehouse on La Brea Boulevard — miles from the hip fashion avenues of Beverly Hills and Sunset Plaza — and set out to re-invent California retailing without actually knowing he was doing so. Since then, American Rag has grown to several locations, does a brisk online business, and has in-store partnerships with Macy’s, Orta, Sazaby League and Levi Strauss, as well as a strong presence in many foreign countries.

Today Mark is married to fashion designer Amanda Shi, and has young twins, Chloe and Ignatius. He is also a mentor to new generations of would-be merchants. To that end, he can often be found strolling the campus at the University of Southern California where he is on the Board of Counselors. He often lectures there, and teaches a pilot class where he has made opening a store into an assignment.

Looking forward to “seeing” you on Tuesday!

UPDATE: What an informative, enjoyable interview. Mark shared his commonsense solutions for everything from taxes to term limits. If you missed it live, click to listen.

The Powerful Month of September

I just got off of an energetic intention-setting call led by my amazing friend and coach, entrepreneur Tasha Powell Chen. A few nuggets of information I received included:

  • It’s the first Day of the Month and a New Moon — everything in nature is urging us to ASK, ASK, ASK!
  • It’s the 9th Month of the Year — and 9 is a powerful, creative number, a symbol of Wisdom and Initiation
  • It’s the Last Quarter of a 9-Year Cycle — time for reflection on the past nine years and how they have prepared and led each of us to where we are now
  • September is the Month of Wisdom and Discernment

Perhaps not coincidentally, my monthly Pisces horoscope from MyStarsHoroscopes.com reads:

PiscesWe’re heading into the last trimester of 2016, but it’s New Year’s Eve all over again for you, Pisces! A glowing lunar eclipse in your sign on the 16th sets the stage for major changes ahead. You always experience a full moon in Pisces around this time of year, but 2016 delivers a full moon eclipse your way. As a result, get ready to close out chapters from your past. Deals and projects that you’ve been working on over the past six months may finally come to fruition. You’ll be ready to move on to another level of living that you may not have experienced before. And if you’re not  ready? The eclipse will still take you to a different place whether you like it or not!

But this isn’t anything to fear. The cosmos, in its wisdom, knows that we can get stuck in ruts and inertia can set in. That’s what eclipses do: they shake, rattle and roll us so that we’ll see the light and move on. This one may make you aware of people and situations in your world that are holding you back, as Mars is in a tough angle. Mars doesn’t like being cornered and neither will you. Chances are that you’ll break free of a job, relationship, group activity or family tie that has worn out its welcome. If you’ve been dutifully keeping a stiff upper lip and your opinions to yourself in recent months, don’t be surprised if you speak up, loud and proud, around eclipse time.

And as eclipses always occur in pairs, there’s a solar event taking place on the 1st. This one occurs in your partnership sector which deals with both romantic and business alliances. As this is a new moon, a fresh beginning can start in love. Singles could find a keeper over the next six months and attached Pisces will make more of a commitment to their lover. Truth be told, if your romance is not built on solid ground you may consider moving on as stern Saturn urges you to look way down the road—do you want to put even more time into a situation that’s not working out? But Neptune could cloud your thoughts, and Mercury is retrograde in this part of your chart until the 22nd. Don’t make any major decisions in love until after then.

The solar eclipse could also introduce you to a person who’s interested in teaming up with you in some sort of business alliance or project, and it could prove to be quite profitable. That’s because on the 9th ( a drumroll, please) lucky Jupiter enters your finance house for the first time in 13 years. This house, the eighth, is all about investing, such as buying real estate (a rental property or your own home), retirement plans, stocks, windfalls (such as an inheritance or nice legal settlement) or entering into a joint venture. Jupiter governs profits, and this is the house of passive income. Teaming up with someone else is the way to go.

For example, if you’re thinking about going the entrepreneurial route, Jupiter can help you line up investors. A friend or relative may ask you to invest in a startup of their’s. You could patent an invention or make some wise investments in the stock market.

Jupiter blesses you in yet another way, as the eighth house also governs sex, intimacy and shared emotions. The next 13 months could be some of the sexiest on record for you! You may be more open to sharing your thoughts with a loved one, and spending more quality time with a lover will become a priority. Single Pisces are in a hot steaming’ place to meet a new flame, thanks to the solar eclipse and Jupiter rolling into your commitment sector. Attached Pisces will see their relationships go to a higher level: engagements, babies, cohabitating, or renewing vows. When the Sun enters Libra on the 22nd it will be joining benevolent Jupiter, so the next four weeks could be game-changers when it comes to your love and family life.

Pluto has been retrograde since April, forcing you to examine your deepest held wishes and aims. You may have realized over the past five months that things you thought that you wanted are no longer important, leading to a revised wish list. You change as a person when Pluto backstrokes through this part of the sky, and this small but mighty planet was also asking you to consider the company you keep: friends, neighbors, team members and groups that you’re a part of. When Pluto goes direct on the 26th you may move forward with a smaller but tighter cadre of friends and associates whom you trust implicitly.

And as one door closes, another opens. Megawatt Mars enters this part of the sky on the 27th, introducing you to a whole new set of people. Networking is the way to go in October, so get ready to crush it on social media, make plans with your tribe and join clubs and organizations that will introduce you to like-minded people.

So many exciting plans in the works that are about to come to fruition! I’ll be posting updates soon as official announcements go out, but let’s just say I’m gearing up for a fabulous fourth quarter!

Thank You Michelle Seitz of The Formatting Formula!

I’m always amazed by the wonderful connections I’m able to make, thanks to modern technology. It’s even more  fun when I end up having much in common with that new person. In the case of Michelle Seitz of The Formatting Formula, it’s a shared upbringing in suburban Philadelphia. Like me, Michelle’s kids also attended Cardinal O’Hara High School in Springfield, PA.

I came across Michelle’s profile on LinkedIn when I conducted a search for professional formatters. As Writestream Publishing grows, we know we’re going to need even more fabulous formatting pros to help out with client projects. Michelle responded immediately to my email, which led to a nice correspondence and an appointment to discuss her services.

Soon after, she emailed me with a wonderful review of Water Signs — an unexpected, pleasant surprise. When Michelle asked if she could feature my book in a series of formatting videos she was creating, I happily agreed.

Thank you, Michelle, for crediting Matt Margolis of Logotecture.com, who did a phenomenal job with the book interior.
